Today my essential oil of the day is Peppermint! It's one of my favorites. Besides the fact that it smells so good, it's also great for headaches! I get awful headaches that run from the base of my skull down my neck and sometimes into my shoulder. A couple drops of peppermint essential oil to the area and its GONE in a matter of minutes!! Depending on the sensitivity of your skin you may need to dilute the oil in a carrier oil (such as organic coconut oil) before applying it to the skin. I have not needed to dilute peppermint oil on my skin, but the warmness doesn't tend to bother me. Peppermint oil has many other uses, some of which are mentioned in the picture below! I also like to diffuse it alone or with lemon for an afternoon pick-me-up!

Stitch fix obsession
I used to use stitch fix a few years ago and absolutely loved it. If you don't know what it is.. When you sign up you fill out a style quiz and then schedule your "fix". Then they send you 5 items based on your style quiz. You decide whether to keep any or all of the items and return what you don't want. If you keep all 5 you get a discount. You also fill out a review for each item regarding why you like or dislike it so that they can adjust for your next fix. You can schedule them monthly, bi-monthly, or just here and there! It's addicting, hence why I stopped before! Now is probably not the most ideal time to restart considering we're spending all our money on the wedding but I really need new summer clothes. My closets hurting!

Research paper.. what research paper?! Golden State's going for 73!!
So I have a 6 page research paper, that I have a feeling is going to be graded pretty harshly due next wednesday. If you know anything about me, you know that I am a HUGE procrastinator... definitely should start it BUT the Golden State Warriors are playing (love Steph Curry) and they're trying to break the single season win record set by the 1995-1996 Chicago Bulls! Oh and Steph is going for the single season record for 3 pointers! He only needs one more to make 400 on the season! Too good to not watch... did I mention that I didn't really care about basketball before this season?! This team is doing something really positive for basketball. They're so fun to watch.. they've certainly made a fan out of me! I'll start the paper tomorrow..
2 Year Anniversary
Yesterday, Mike and I celebrated two years together. It's hard to believe that two years ago we went on our first date and now we are engaged to be married! I know people probably say this all the time but I honestly cannot imagine my life without him in it. He has changed me for the better and the love he has for Evan is truly heart warming. 192 more days!

Stress away
When you're on day 4 of overnights and you feel like a zombie.. STRESS AWAY! I love this blend. I use it with a roller ball and apply it to my wrists and the back of my neck. The scent is soothing and it really does help with the tension headaches I sometimes get at work!
ICU nursing
I can't really comment on my job for various reasons but this sums it up pretty well..

The Oily Life
So I know I just posted about essential oils recently.. and I haven't been using them that long, but I am in love! They're AMAZING! I attended an online class last night that gave so much information about how to use essential oils for your whole family. Here's a little bit of what I learned..
There are oils that promote restful sleep (useful for the whole family)! Most people know that lavender is beneficial in this way, but did you know that cedarwood, rutavala, and peace and calming are as well?! Cedarwood even helps the body to create melatonin. These oils can be used in a diffuser (separately or in combination) and added to a rollerball and applied at bedtime.
Copaiba is one of the oils I got in the starter kit that I had no idea what I would do with it. Fortunately, Kari went over some uses for it! Copaiba can be used on the gums of a teething baby or toddler. It is also good for immune support (try rubbing a couple drops to the bottom of your feet before bed).
RC, another oil that I wasn't really sure how to use. And I still don't know what RC actually stands for... RC is good for respiratory support. Think of it as a vapor rub without the chemicals. Rub RC to the chest, back, and feet.
Purification is one that I've used quite frequently already. A couple drops added to smelly laundry. Diffusing in the bathroom, and a drop to the bottom of a laundry hamper. Purification does just what the name says, it purifies the air.
Thieves is known for being great for cleaning. At a make-and-take party I had gone to in the past I had made a disinfectant spray using thieves. It works great. I use it on the counters in place of clorox. Young living also sells thieves dish soap and other thieves cleaning products if you aren't ready (or don't have the time) to make them on your own. Thieves is another one that is great for immune support. Just like Copaiba, rub it on the bottoms of your feet in the morning and at night or try to diffuse it throughout the day.
Lemon is the oil that I have used the most, by far! I think it's because it's just so easy to use. I put a drop or two in my water throughout the day for a little boost of energy (and a little flavor to my water). It's also great in a diffuser since it has a nice, clean smell. I tend to diffuse lemon alone or with peppermint. I have also used it in recipes instead of lemon juice.
This is one I can't wait to try. Evan gets swimmers ear in the summer and also sometimes has issues with his ears during flights (which I contribute to water from swimming during vacation). Kari suggested combining melaleuca, lavender, and melrose in a roller ball and applying it behind the ears and don't the neck. When I use this one, I'll let you know how it works!
I know this is getting really long but two more young living products I need to touch on that are NOT oils. Pure protein complete and Ningxia Red. I make a lot of smoothies/shakes whatever you want to call them. For me, it's usually when I'm in a hurry on my way to class and don't have time to make breakfast. I can make a shake and drink it on the way. Evan likes them as after school snacks. Adding pure protein complete (vanilla spice or chocolate flavor) would just be a way to add in some extra protein and keeps me from again being hungry 20 mins into class. Definitely want to try these! Ningxia Red is drink. It's derived from wolf berries and has a lot of antioxidant properties and also has essential oils incorporated into the mix. Because of this, it is a great source of natural energy (don't even get me started on energy drinks like monster or red bull and how bad they are...)! 2 samples of ningxia red come in the premier starter kit. I tried one of them today and it tasted surprisingly good considering it looks like tomato juice. And I did definitely notice a little boost of energy. I plan to buy a bottle of this and try replacing coffee with it when I work over night at the hospital. That should really put it to the test!
Ningxia Red
All of this information is only a little of what I have already learned about essential oils! It really is fascinating how these oils work. I know that if you try them, you will agree!

Procrastination to a fault
You would think that with my schedule as crazy as it is I would try to get things done ahead of time. Nope! I wait to the last minute... ALWAYS! Looking at my planner tonight, I realized I have 3 papers and one PowerPoint due for school in the next 2.5 weeks! None of them even started... Every time I say I'm not going to do this again, but here I am! It's going to be a busy couple of weeks! I should probably just apologize to Mike now for how bitchy I'm going to be..

Essential Oils
For quite a while I have wanted to try essential oils. I have many friends that use them and love them. I have gone to many "make-and-take" parties and love the products that I've made. But I have never taken the plunge and actually bought them for myself. I think the main reason for this is simply how much they cost. A young living starter kit is approximately $160! Of course I could have just bought one or two oils to try and gone from there, but knowing myself this would not be enough. I knew if I were to try them I would want to explore everything essential oils have to offer. Recently, I again got curious. I heard a friend at work talking about young living and how much she loved her new oils. I saw another friend post to facebook about young living and her oils. So I decided to ask some more questions... and I did it! I finally took the plunge and bought a young living starter kit. And let me tell you, I love it! It comes with 11 different oils, a diffuser, and a lot of information. I have also found a ton of information on pinterest regarding different combinations to use in the diffuser and household products to make and use around the house. My goal is to eventually make all my own household cleaners (I've already been making my own laundry soap for a couple years). If you are like me and have heard people talk about using essential oils, but haven't taken the plunge message me and I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have!
