The Oily Life

So I know I just posted about essential oils recently.. and I haven't been using them that long, but I am in love! They're AMAZING! I attended an online class last night that gave so much information about how to use essential oils for your whole family. Here's a little bit of what I learned..

There are oils that promote restful sleep (useful for the whole family)! Most people know that lavender is beneficial in this way, but did you know that cedarwood, rutavala, and peace and calming are as well?! Cedarwood even helps the body to create melatonin. These oils can be used in a diffuser (separately or in combination) and added to a rollerball and applied at bedtime.

Copaiba is one of the oils I got in the starter kit that I had no idea what I would do with it. Fortunately, Kari went over some uses for it! Copaiba can be used on the gums of a teething baby or toddler. It is also good for immune support (try rubbing a couple drops to the bottom of your feet before bed).

RC, another oil that I wasn't really sure how to use. And I still don't know what RC actually stands for... RC is good for respiratory support. Think of it as a vapor rub without the chemicals. Rub RC to the chest, back, and feet.

Purification is one that I've used quite frequently already. A couple drops added to smelly laundry. Diffusing in the bathroom, and a drop to the bottom of a laundry hamper. Purification does just what the name says, it purifies the air.

Thieves is known for being great for cleaning. At a make-and-take party I had gone to in the past I had made a disinfectant spray using thieves. It works great. I use it on the counters in place of clorox. Young living also sells thieves dish soap and other thieves cleaning products if you aren't ready (or don't have the time) to make them on your own. Thieves is another one that is great for immune support. Just like Copaiba, rub it on the bottoms of your feet in the morning and at night or try to diffuse it throughout the day.

Lemon is the oil that I have used the most, by far! I think it's because it's just so easy to use. I put a drop or two in my water throughout the day for a little boost of energy (and a little flavor to my water). It's also great in a diffuser since it has a nice, clean smell. I tend to diffuse lemon alone or with peppermint. I have also used it in recipes instead of lemon juice.

This is one I can't wait to try. Evan gets swimmers ear in the summer and also sometimes has issues with his ears during flights (which I contribute to water from swimming during vacation). Kari suggested combining melaleuca, lavender, and melrose in a roller ball and applying it behind the ears and don't the neck. When I use this one, I'll let you know how it works!

I know this is getting really long but two more young living products I need to touch on that are NOT oils. Pure protein complete and Ningxia Red. I make a lot of smoothies/shakes whatever you want to call them. For me, it's usually when I'm in a hurry on my way to class and don't have time to make breakfast. I can make a shake and drink it on the way. Evan likes them as after school snacks. Adding pure protein complete (vanilla spice or chocolate flavor) would just be a way to add in some extra protein and keeps me from again being hungry 20 mins into class. Definitely want to try these! Ningxia Red is drink. It's derived from wolf berries and has a lot of antioxidant properties and also has essential oils incorporated into the mix. Because of this, it is a great source of natural energy (don't even get me started on energy drinks like monster or red bull and how bad they are...)! 2 samples of ningxia red come in the premier starter kit. I tried one of them today and it tasted surprisingly good considering it looks like tomato juice. And I did definitely notice a little boost of energy. I plan to buy a bottle of this and try replacing coffee with it when I work over night at the hospital. That should really put it to the test!

Ningxia Red

All of this information is only a little of what I have already learned about essential oils! It really is fascinating how these oils work. I know that if you try them, you will agree!
